Celebrate Star Wars With Faster Internet
Phynx Fiber has been involved in advancing Mid-Missouri’s communication services through technology since 1954… aka we’re a bunch of nerds who are more than ready to celebrate Star Wars Day this May 4th! Our 1 Gbps fiber Internet lets us search the web pretty quickly, so we’ve compiled a comprehensive, all things Star Wars guide for you to let you pick your favorites – hopefully some may be a surprise!
About Star Wars Day
Author and publicist Alan Arnold unexpectedly coined the term on May 4, 1979 when discussing Margaret Thatcher’s victory as Britain’s first female prime minister, according to starwars.com. However, the first official celebration didn’t take place until 2001 at the Toronto Underground Cinema which included a costume contest and movie marathon. Lucasfilm eventually embraced the grassroots holiday and is recognized by geeks (like us) worldwide.
How to celebrate: throw a watch party
If you’re looking for a one-stop shop for your movie marathon, we recommend purchasing and streaming the epic Star Wars sagas from Amazon Prime. (Unfortunately Rogue One won’t be available on Netflix for a couple more months!) Or, if your watch party participants are a little younger then you could opt for watching one of the animated series instead. Both Star Wars Rebels and LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures air on DisneyXD – just one of the Disney channels which happen to be available through Sling if you’ve already cut the cable.
Of course, it’s not a party without food or games! Take your search to Pinterest for “star wars parties” and you’ll find a variety of recipes and party games to supplement the fun. Our favorite foods include light saber pretzels, yoda soda and Admiral Ackbar’s snackbar. We also like the idea of a pinata bash, but since noone would want to hurt BB-8 we prefer destroying the Death Star.
If you’re going as far as throwing an elaborately themed watch party then we suggest shopping on ThinkGeek to find fashionable attire to complete the mood.
Other ways to celebrate: travel abroad
This method of celebration would be considerably more difficult, and more expensive, but ANA Jets recently launched their new C-3P0 design. So if you plan on traveling abroad in Japan anytime soon, be sure to book your trip on one of their four Star Wars jets!
More Star Wars excitement coming in 2017
2017 marks the 40th anniversary of Star Wars: A New Hope. While this is cause for celebration in and of itself, Rogue One’s director Gareth Edwards alluded to a 4k restoration of the classic film during an interview with Little White Lies, a publication dedicated to “great movies and the talented people who make them.” While nothing has been teased or announced, we admit it would be pretty cool to rewatch the the film in 4k!
A new animated, micro-series titled Star Wars Forces of Destiny is set to release this July exclusively on Disney YouTube, followed by eight additional shorts to air on Disney Channel this fall.
Many gamers will be excited for the release of Star Wars Battlefront II this November, the fourth installment in the series. Unlike the previous games however, you’ll be able to play through the story in an offline campaign as Iden Versio, commander of an Imperial special forces unit.
And of course as we all know by now, Star Wars: The Last Jedi is set to hit theaters December 15, 2017.
You can keep up with all of this year’s Star Wars Day news, deals and video on the official Star Wars May the 4th website.
